About The House
The Pioneers’ Paulson House Museum in San Jose History Park showcases what life was like in Santa Clara Valley before it became “Silicon Valley”. The museum features interactive displays, history events, rotating exhibits, and guided tours.
Paulson House History
The Queen Anne-style house was built in 1889 by its owner Perry Paulson (1852-1932), a building contractor in San Jose for over 45 years. He was a native of Sweden and became a U.S. citizen in 1904.
The Paulson House was moved to History Park in 1986 from 343 Provost Street in San Jose to make way for the construction of the Children’s Discovery Museum.
In 2005, the Pioneers partnered with History San Jose to restore it. Our goal was to establish a meeting place plus a location to exhibit furnishings, art, and memorabilia gifted to the Pioneers by the late Gladys Jackson of Jackson Ranch and others.
The Paulson House exterior has been beautifully repainted. The Pioneers’ docents staff the home on most Sundays from noon until 4 pm for guests to experience life in historic San Jose. For information on becoming a docent or greeter at the Paulson House, contact our Volunteer Coordinator Jonna Baker at [email protected]. Group tours are by appointment only.
